French-Polish Fugitive director hopes US return after sex scandal

French-Polish fugitive director Roman Polanski hopes to get back to the US, claiming a plea deal to facilitate a comeback.

French-Polish fugitive director Roman Polanski eyes for a comeback to the US, claiming he reached a plea deal over his unlawful sex act.

The award-winning director of ‘The Pianist’ and ‘Chinatown’ claims a plea deal in his case that would prevent him from serving time in prison, his attorney Harland Braun was quoted by the media on Friday as saying.

The director needs assurances before returning to the US, the attorney said, adding that a Polish court considered Polanski’s case with “active participation” by Los Angeles County District Attorney Jackie Lacey which leads to a decision that the director satisfied his conviction.

The director has not set foot on the US soil since almost 40 years back due to admitting sex with an underage girl in 1977.

Earlier on, Braun has asked judge Scott Gordon to break the seal to a secret transcript for the prosecutor’s testimony in the case the director was embroiled in.

Polanski, 83, spent 42 days in a US prison before being released. In 1978, however, he fled from the US when he figured the judge would give him a hefty prison sentence.

“(The Polish court) determined that Roman was promised less than 90 days custody,” Braun said.

In the event that Braun convinces the US court to uphold the Polish court’s decision, the director will enter America as a free man, a media report said.
